TOGETHER HOME IS HERE
NEAAO’S MOBILE OUTREACH PROJECT
TOGETHER HOME IS HERE brings neighbors together for a unique experience that celebrates diversity and honors our American identity as a welcoming nation. We offer communities across Maine the opportunity to engage in creative and team building activities that foster greater awareness, health and resiliency.
The project began in 2019 with the generous contribution of the Onion Foundation. In 2020, New England Arab American Organization was one of only eight organizations nationwide awarded a grant from Welcoming America. Welcoming America inspires people to build a different kind of community — one that embraces immigrants and fosters opportunity for all. As a grantee and member of Welcoming America’s global network, we share with our neighbors, especially Maine’s newest arrivals, positive messages about acceptance.
The centerpiece of Together Home is Here is NEAAO’s 35-ft. RV that will begin visiting neighborhoods and rural towns in June 2020.
During visits, people of all ages have the chance to engage in a variety of fun activities that may include art, theater, outdoor movie nights, parachute and maypole, and musical performances. The program will also serve as a library of resources about important public health issues like vaping, domestic violence, COVID-19 and nutrition. The RV will be pledge central for Maine’s first White Ribbon Campaign to engage men in the prevention of family violence, and the international Hands Are Not for Hitting campaign to teach youth about peaceful conflict resolution. NEAAO follows all public safety guidelines for Covid-19, including social distancing. This project is in partnership of major partners as Children Museum, Theater Maine, 4-HFoundation and local community artists
