NEAAO Ambassadors Scholarship (Asylum-seeking students)
Objective
The New England Arab American Organization Ambassadors and Board recognize the limited scholarships available to asylum-seekers whose cases have been delayed due to Covid-19 and delays in the immigration courts. Asylees do not qualify for most government grants and scholarship assistance programs. This forces many students with solid educational plans to forfeit a year or more of study—or to postpone their educations indefinitely. NEAAO Ambassadors seek to remedy this through the NEAAO Ambassador Scholarship Fund.
Goal & Mission
Provide financial assistance to asylum-seeking students who are pursuing higher education in Maine. Everyone deserves to be educated regardless of their status.
Vision
NEAAO envisions a community where those who have escaped persecution and war in their home countries can realize their educational dreams. Asylum-seekers are not temporary residents. They are applying for asylum so they may be permanent members of our communities. Many achieve citizenship after their timed cases are complete.
