The White Ribbon Campaign is an international campaign that seeks to include men in dialogue about gender violence. Over 30 men in the Lakes Region have taken the White Ribbon Pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Visit our Lakes Region WRC website here.

NEAAO LAKES REGION

NEAAO is pleased to create and support opportunities for New Mainers to thrive in the Lakes Region of Maine.  Together with Through These Doors, we are establishing a strong safety net and welcoming community for New Mainers.   Our work ensures greater access to human and emergency services, and identifies supportive allies that understand the challenges of moving to Maine’s more rural areas.

Some of our recent accomplishments include:

  • Networking with faith communities to ensure newcomers receive friendly welcome and have their immediate needs for food and clothing met

  • Serving as liaison with town managers to ensure that local policies are culturally sensitive and do not discriminate

  • Engaging local businesses to think creatively about how New Mainers may benefit their businesses—or compliment them  through entrepreneurship

  • Training local human service providers in cultural awareness and exploring ways to improve access for all newcomers

  • Creating opportunities for New Mainers in the Lakes Region to socialize and experience the beauty of the region (i.e. outings, picnics, history walks)

  • Helping rural populations learn about and interact with our newcomers through Culture Clubs

  • Working with area law enforcement and courts to ensure safety and justice for New Mainers experiencing domestic violence

  • Helping schools learn how NEAAO can assist New Mainer families with children in the Lakes Region

NEAAO has an office in Bridgton and provides outreach to Bridgton, Naples, Harrison, Casco, Raymond, Sebago, Frye Island, Standish, Gray, New Gloucester and Raymond.  Our goal is to be a resource for New Mainers so no one feels isolated.
